On October 24th, 2023, I had the honor of attending the 2nd annual Attleboro Enterprises Awards Night at the enVision Hotel and Conference Center in Mansfield, MA. For those of you who are just starting to follow me, Attleboro Enterprises, Inc. is an organization dedicated to supporting rehabilitation services to those with developmental, intellectual and physical differences in finding employment services.

The event was hosted by Attleboro Enterprises CEO Jerry Pilkington and featured speaking appearances by Attleboro Enterprises Board of Directors Chairman Gary Snyder (my dad and wingman), Director of Employment Services John Raposa and Massachusetts State Representative Adam Scanlon. In addition, we also had the honor of welcoming Kathleen DeSimone, the Mayor of Attleboro, MA as a guest speaker as well as the head of the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.

More importantly, this was a night for the individuals and their families to come together to celebrate the accomplishments that these individuals took in their lives.

Like last year’s awards ceremony and this year’s award ceremony, the individuals who were awarded had to move mountains and overcome personal obstacles to get to where they were. Furthermore, attending the awards night also gave me a sense of personal pride as this was similar to the yearly presentations of the “Go the Distance” Scholarship at my alma mater, Seekonk High School.

The big difference between the awards nights at Seekonk High School and Attleboro Enterprises is that while the recipients at SHS are students about to become contributors to society, the recipients at Attleboro Enterprises are already making a contribution to society, but not in the traditional sense.

Still, that doesn’t mean that obstacles have to be overcome. One of the awards recipients, Brandon Moore, works at one of the Stop and Shop supermarket locations and had to work on obstacles such as improving his ability to interact with customers at the cash register. In a way, seeing his mentor from Stop and Shop present also made me think of my own Stop and Shop mentor who sadly passed away from cancer in 2018.

But it wasn’t just a night for the clients of Attleboro Enterprises, but also for the staff where among those honored were staff members with multiple years of service ranging from 30 years to 5 years. In addition, several individual awards were given out to staff members for excellence in direct care.

All in all, the 2023 Attleboro Enterprises awards night was another great way to bring the community together and celebrate all that each individual had to accomplish in their personal goals and dreams. I look forward to covering the 2024 Attleboro Enterprises Awards Night!!

Catch you all later!!
