As we head into the final weeks of 2024, I wanted to share with you some important news regarding my future on one of the social media platforms that I use. This is news that may not be surprising to some considering it’s overall reputation, for others, it can be a bit of shock. But it’s news that I hope you will understand in the long term.

Effective December 31st, 2024, I will be shutting down my Twitter/X account and will be moving all my activity over to Bluesky. This was a decision that I had been considering for the past few weeks now and it’s a decision that will provide more benefits in a safe social media environment. The truth of the matter is that ever since Elon Musk purchased Twitter, I felt that it has developed more and more into a cesspool of garbage and other types of ballyhoo that is otherwise bad for my mental health.

But perhaps the biggest factor behind this is the fact that the news regarding the block feature was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I mean, let’s be real here, we all want to be safe on social media. There are pirates out there that want to make things unsafe and blocking those pirates is an option, but now you would have to pay premium or something like that to have that option with this new package.

Now, to be fair, I’m pretty sure that we have either blocked someone or have been blocked by others. Believe me, I’ve been there both ways. But then again, that’s how we learn and sometimes it takes more than one instance for that lesson to be dragged in. I will say that social media has not only been a valuable tool for allowing me to share what I know about the neurodiversity community, but it’s also been a learning experience regarding the dos and don’ts of online social activity.

The other factor is that I want to give you the best experience possible without the negativity Twitter has brought. Bluesky is a platform that has proven to be a safer platform where you can use features like blocking to protect yourself. I built Going the Distance with the importance of providing you blogs, reviews and anything else in a safe environment and will continue to do so, just now on Bluesky in addition to my existing profiles on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Plus, to be fair, I detest the depressing colors that Twitter/X has now and Bluesky reflects the brighter nature that I want us all to embrace in this day and age. Now, for those of you who have been following me on Twitter, I’m sure that this isn’t easy. All I ask of you is to give Bluesky at least a chance and who knows? Perhaps you’ll grow to love it.

Finally, as Going the Distance continues to evolve in 2025, you can rest assured that I will continue to provide the best I can give you to supporting neurodivergent individuals in education, employment and everyday life. As always, continue to stay tuned for what comes in the future!!

Catch you all later!!
