So, one of the personal projects that I am currently working on for 2023 is coming to accept the fact that my iPod nano after nearly 9 years, is on the verge of being replaced. While I am not surprised that my iPod is running out of gas, I can’t help but think of the fact that out of all the coping mechanisms I use, having an iPod combined with headphones is my biggest coping mechanism.

Just the idea of wearing headphones and listening to music is more than enough to help me get through times of the day such as work or travel. With something like an iPod, I can block out certain situations that I don’t want to hear such as other loud noises. But when it comes to replacing my current iPod, I’m looking for something that is easy and simple to put on my waist.

Now, you might ask why am I telling this particular story? Well, its because many neurodivergent individuals will have headphones on and perhaps listening to music of their own genre. Neurodivergent individuals who frequently listen to music through something like an iPod sometimes don’t understand that nothing lasts forever. I mean, take it from me: my current iPod has served me well for almost 10 years and it will soon be time for me to retire it. So, in my mind, if I am going to continue having this all important coping mechanism, then I need to make a change.

But other neurodivergent individuals will often struggle with replacing something like an iPod Nano because they get too attached to it and think that you can just replace it easily. It’s also important to note that when something like an iPod Nano is discontinued, you often think to yourself what exactly can match up to the quality of an iPod Nano. Some of us in the community are always used to the same type of coping mechanism for most of our lives. So, what happens when you deal with this sudden change?

I can assure that most if not a lot goes through your mind such as will all my music be there or will I still be able to get something that I can wear on my waist? That’s exactly what I am feeling right now, especially when I travel for public speaking engagements.

If you know of any products similar to the iPod Nano that I have had over the past 9 years, please let me know!!

Catch you all later!!
