I know I am a little late on this as this was a few months ago, but justice was finally served after an 8 year old autistic boy froze to death by a monster who was his father, a New York City Police Officer.

In December, Michael Valva was convicted and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the death of Thomas Valva, an 8 year old autistic boy who was abused and left in a freezing garage because he would frequently misbehave and do various actions such as bedwetting. Now, I want to be very clear about something: I have ZERO tolerance for monster parents/guardians who abuse neurodiverse children or loved ones.

When I recently saw Michael Valva tearfully address the judge, I could see that it was a case of too little, too late. Just because he was showing remorse doesn’t mean he gets my sympathy. What he did has destroyed his life forever and used his career as a NYPD police officer to mask his actions.

Let’s be real, if you are going to be a parent or especially an autism parent, you have to uphold an oath much like a Hippocrathic Oath that doctors swear towards and that was to never do no harm to your children. If the child misbehaves, that’s another story.

But, getting back to the case at hand, Michael Valva clearly was not qualified to be a parent to begin with and we sadly continue to see that a lot in today’s families. We are seeing so many children being abused and tortured for doing the simplest of mistakes. What’s more, the law would be on the side of the accused and find them acquitted.

When the jury overheard the evidence of the boys being screamed at by the father to “hose down” and when he collapsed facedown, Michael and his girlfriend would wait to call 911 after one hour, I couldn’t help but put myself in the jury and develop a sort of anger inside of me. I mean, who in the hell would consider themself a man when they are really the monster?

What I am saying here is that we need to do better in supporting those who are being abused by their families. So many neurodiverse/disabled individuals are being taken advantage of and the problem is that there needs to be more awareness and better understanding that if parents aren’t fit to be parents, then they shouldn’t even have the title.

May Michael Valva rot in prison and may Thomas rest in peace!!

Catch you all later!!
