Well, this past week I did a good service to Southwest Florida in the form of contributing $25 to the American Red Cross. I had mentioned in the two previous blogs that I was going to do something to further help Sanibel and Captiva Islands get back on their feet.
…
Yes, Southwest Florida has a long road to recovery ahead of it, but at least I could help out in a way. Still, there is the matter that maybe I feel like I can do much more, but stepping foot on Sanibel Island right now, my second home, would be very upsetting for my mental health. Seeing the pictures is enough as it is as a lot of locations are badly damaged or destroyed, but most of the spots are still standing with mostly water damage.

Now, you might be wondering where I will be heading to this winter with Sanibel in recovery. To put it simply…I really don’t know where at this point. It’s hard to find a place as good as Sanibel without demoting it’s qualities. We could go to another location in Florida or even somewhere in the Caribbean.
As I have said before in previous blogs, I am big on having routines and structures, but there are times where I have no other choice but to adjust, which is exactly what we are doing. This past year, we dealt with a water main break in my folks’ home, I dealt with the sudden passing of my friend/colleague, David Sharif and trying to figure out where to take “Going the Distance” from here.
As you might have guessed, I’ve already had to make some modifications so far this year. But then again, the business of being a self-advocate and public speaker is an ever changing structure and our winter plans are the same.
…
Catch you all later!!
