If you recall in my last blog, I revealed to you all that I was recently diagnosed with a non-alcoholic fatty liver and as a result, I have had to make drastic changes to my lifestyle such as incorporating fruits, certain vegetables and having a better discipline when it comes to food portions.
However, one of the dietary changes I made was incorporating Charlie the Tuna as a member of my dietary plans. For those of you who don’t know, Charlie the Tuna is the mascot of Starkist, known for their famous tuna and salmon that you can put onto sandwiches. I recently started getting into Charlie the Tuna when I became somewhat addicted to the old Starkist commercials on YouTube.
Looking at Charlie, I often can relate to him as a neurodivergent where he wants to fulfill a goal of being selected by Starkist because he believes that Starkist wants tunas with good taste.
n reality, Starkist only wants tunas that taste good. The same can also be said with my large food portions because I thought that when I got stressed, food portions were the way to go. It’s just like Charlie believing that Starkist would accept him for having good taste (much like with my stress eating being a self-medication) but it’s quite the opposite. Charlie has to learn repeatedly that only Starkist wants tunas that taste good and I have learn repeatedly over and over again that stress eating only makes your problems worse.
…
The other factor that I connect with Charlie on is that we are often blinded by a certain belief that our problems would get solved a certain way. I’ve often been blinded time after time that what I am seeking, sometimes isn’t the best option for someone like me. Charlie is blinded by false promises as am I and that is one thing we can connect with one another on.
…
Okay, I’m sure you all are wondering why I am easily connecting with the mascot of a seafood product? Because Charlie and I are in the same boat with everything that I have mentioned. We are trying to not be blinded by these false beliefs that what we are seeking isn’t the best for us.
For Charlie, it’s accepting that Starkist wants tunas that taste good and for me, it’s accepting that stress eating only makes your problems worse instead of better. In other words, we are both in the same boat, aren’t we?
